Jackson, Wyo., will begin implementing user fees for the fast-charging electric vehicle charging stations in the parking garage on Millward Street starting July 1. The new rates come after electricity-related fees for fast chargers increased by 3.5 times.
Fee Structure
Drivers using the fast chargers will pay 25 cents per kilowatt-hour, with an additional 10-cent-per-kilowatt-hour surcharge from 7 to 9 a.m., when electricity demands are highest. An overstay fee of 25 cents per minute will also take effect beginning 30 minutes after a vehicle has finished charging.
Ecosystem Stewardship Administrator Tanya Anderson stated that the fees are a result of higher taxes on the kilowatt-hours for fast-charging stations. "They use a lot more electricity," Anderson said. "Maintenance costs are way higher. … We’re just aiming to break even."
