New Mexico State Police (NMSP) has released bodycam footage following a police shooting that occurred on April 21, 2026, in Torrance County. The shooting happened after Torrance County Deputies were called to the scene due to reports of a family member firing a gun on a property near the town of Manzano.
Deputies later located the suspect, Edward Lopez, 69, who was informed he had a warrant out for his arrest. Lopez then went back into his home to retrieve a rifle and started shooting at Deputies. Deputies on the scene called for backup from State Police. In the video, Deputies can be heard saying, “let me see your hands!” before firing shots at Lopez.
Police immediately provided medical aid, and Lopez was quickly transported to the hospital but died from his wounds. A 22-caliber rifle was recovered at the scene, and no officers were injured during the incident.
