Cumberland County has opened several cooling centers to provide residents with a cool and safe place to escape the extreme heat. The centers are located in various government buildings and public libraries across the county.
Cooling Center Locations
The following locations have been designated as cooling centers: Cumberland County Department of Public Health, Cumberland County Department of Social Services, Cumberland County Public Libraries, Fayetteville Area System of Transit, Fayetteville Cares Day Resource Center, and Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation.
These cooling centers are open during normal business hours and are not shelters. Residents are encouraged to visit these centers to stay cool and safe during the heatwave.
Extreme Heat Safety Reminders
To stay safe during the extreme heat, residents are reminded to drink plenty of water, stay in air-conditioned spaces when possible, avoid direct sun exposure during peak heat hours, limit outdoor activities, and check on elderly neighbors, young children, and pets.
