A 12-year-old boy is recovering after surviving a shark attack while vacationing with his family in the Bahamas. Parker Roll was at a secluded beach when what he thought was a docile nurse shark turned out to be a 10-foot-long reef shark that latched onto his leg.
His older brother pulled him away from the shark and out of the water, while another brother ran for a first aid kit. The family transported Parker 60 miles by boat to the nearest hospital.
Parker said, ‘It felt like a knife was stabbed into my calf and then twisted and then someone was laying on top of it. I definitely consider myself very lucky as that shark could’ve easily taken my leg off.’ He needed 1,000 stitches in his leg, and his parents said doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
