The Los Angeles Clippers are involved in serious discussions about a trade that would send Kawhi Leonard back to the Toronto Raptors, according to ESPN. Leonard spent one season in Toronto, leading the Raptors to their only NBA title in 2018-19.

Leonard’s Future

Leonard’s representatives have made it known that if the Clippers wanted to move on from Leonard, he would sign a contract extension with the Raptors. The Clippers haven’t committed to him beyond this upcoming season, and Leonard has one season left on his current contract, worth $50.3 million.

Leonard turned 35 on Monday and is a two-time NBA champion, winning his first title in 2013-14 with the San Antonio Spurs. He won the NBA Finals MVP award in both championship seasons.

The Clippers finished the season at 42-40 and were eliminated in the play-in round by the Golden State Warriors. The Raptors were 46-36 and lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs in seven games.
