The city of Oshkosh has begun work on upgrades to its wastewater treatment plant, located on North Campbell Road. The project, which started in June, aims to reduce phosphorous discharge into the Fox River through the installation of new filtration devices. Additionally, chlorine disinfection devices will be replaced with ultraviolet disinfection devices, a change expected to help reduce algae in Lake Winnebago.
Project Details
According to Oshkosh Director of Engineering and Utilities James Rabe, the project is a response to Lake Winnebago being listed as an impaired water body. Rabe stated, “That’s really what we’re doing. We’re trying to remove one of those key nutrients that causes those algal blooms.” The filtration portion of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with the entire project anticipated to be fully completed by Spring 2028.
