Shawnee Man Dies In Drowning Incident

A Shawnee man died after a drowning incident on Broken Bow Lake Sunday, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. At about 5:10 p.m., 68-year-old Willard Phillips of Shawnee was transported to McCurtain Memorial Hospital following the incident. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to OHP.

The incident happened about a quarter of a mile east of Marina Cove. The OHP report did not detail what led up to the incident, but it did say that a 2022 Spirit Pontoon was involved, and two others on the boat were not injured. The incident remains under investigation.
