The Wyoming governor’s race is gaining momentum as four Republicans, one Democrat, and a Constitution Party candidate have announced their plans to run for the office. Republican candidates include Eric Barlow, a Marine Corps veteran and rancher; Megan Degenfelder, the current state Superintendent of Public Instruction; Brent Bien, a retired Marine Corps Colonel; and Curt Blake, a lesser-known candidate. The Democratic candidate is Ken Casner, who has run for governor in the past. The Constitution Party candidate, Rebecca Bextel, has stated that she will only actively campaign if Eric Barlow wins the Republican nomination.
Republican Candidates
Eric Barlow’s website highlights his experience as a Marine Corps veteran, rancher, and large animal veterinarian. He has served in the Wyoming legislature and as House Speaker. Megan Degenfelder, who has the endorsement of President Donald Trump, is a sixth-generation Wyoming ranch kid with private-sector experience in coal and oil and gas. Brent Bien, who challenged Governor Mark Gordon in the 2022 GOP Primary, claims to be the only conservative candidate in the race. Curt Blake, who has lived in Wyoming for 60 years, is running because he could not ‘sit on my hands’ when looking at the other candidates.
Democratic and Constitution Party Candidates
Ken Casner, the only Democrat to file for governor, has run for the office in the past but does not have a campaign website. Rebecca Bextel, the Constitution Party candidate, has stated that she will only actively campaign if Eric Barlow wins the Republican nomination, as she believes either Megan Degenfelder or Brent Bien would ‘make an excellent Governor.’ Bextel is known for her role in the ‘Checkgate’ incident, where she handed out checks to lawmakers on the floor of the Wyoming House.
