Louisiana voters headed to the polls on Saturday to select the major party nominees for the upcoming U.S. Senate race. The primary runoff elections follow a shifting political landscape in the state under a new closed primary system.
Runoff Election Results
In the Republican primary runoff, U.S. Representative Julia Letlow beat State Treasurer John Fleming 57% to 43%. Letlow advances to the fall ballot to compete for the seat being vacated by two-term incumbent U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, who failed to advance past the May primary.
On the Democratic side, Jamie Davis beat Gary Crockett 80% to 20%. The winners of Saturday night’s runoff contests now move forward to the general election scheduled for November 3.
