Chickasaw Nation Lt. Gov. Chris Anoatubby will take over as governor on Friday, following in his father’s footsteps. Bill Anoatubby announced his retirement earlier this month, saying the decision came after prayer, thought, and discussion with his family.
Legacy of Bill Anoatubby
Bill Anoatubby served as the 32nd governor of the Chickasaw Nation since 1987, after serving two terms as lieutenant governor from 1979 to 1987. During his administration, the tribe invested in various businesses, including energy, tech, retail, healthcare, and hospitality, resulting in over 100 businesses.
State Chamber CEO Chad Warmington praised Bill Anoatubby’s economic development efforts, stating that he has delivered economic growth not only for the Chickasaw Nation but also for all Oklahomans. Cherokee Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. released a statement saying that Bill Anoatubby is the greatest leader the Inter-Tribal Council has ever known.
Chris Anoatubby’s New Role
Chris Anoatubby will take the oath of office to become the new Chickasaw Nation governor at 11 a.m. during a ceremony at the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. He aims to continue his father’s legacy and provide stability and progress for the Chickasaw Nation.
