Whataburger officials have filed construction plans to build a new fast-food restaurant at the chain’s current Bastrop location. The $2.5 million project will include a new 3,800-square-foot restaurant with sit-in dining and drive-thru service.

Construction at the Bastrop location is expected to begin August 3 and be completed by December 29. It is not yet clear whether the restaurant will be closed during construction. Two other Whataburger restaurants serve Bastrop County, including locations in Paige and Elgin.
