Attendees Focus on Family Time
Attendees on the first day said they were less focused on the politics surrounding the event and more on enjoying the weather, music, and attractions with their families. “It’s a good family time on a nice summer day,” said Sarah Parker, visiting from neighboring Virginia.
The event is part of a series of celebrations leading up to the July 4 Independence Day holiday, commemorating the American colonists’ Declaration of Independence from Britain in 1776.
Partisan Concerns
Seven US states, all with Democratic governors, declined to send official delegations to the fair due to concerns about the event’s partisan tone. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found that a majority of Americans think the 250th anniversary celebrations have grown too political.
