TexAmericas Center industrial park has announced a site ready for a possible large battery-materials manufacturing project that could bring about $500 million in investment to the Texarkana area.
Project Details
The proposed project would be a partnership between EnergyX and Wildcat Discovery Technologies, according to a news release. The companies are considering building a plant that would manufacture lithium iron phosphate cathode material, a key ingredient used in batteries for electric vehicles, energy storage systems, drones and some defense applications.
EnergyX has secured an option on about 330 acres at TexAmericas Center while it evaluates the project. The site would complement EnergyX’s lithium extraction demonstration plant, which recently opened on the TexAmericas campus.
TexAmericas’ infrastructure, rail access, utilities and permitting process make it attractive for large industrial projects, according to the release. The organization said that being ‘site-ready’ helped EnergyX choose the location for consideration, adding that the proposed facility would help create a more domestic supply chain for battery materials.
