As the summer season is in full swing, libraries across the Dallas-Fort Worth area are providing a wide range of activities and programs for children to enjoy. From summer reading challenges to story times and craft days, there’s something for every age group.
Allen Public Library
The Allen Public Library is running a summer program for all ages through July 31, with prizes and free books awarded for preschoolers, elementary school-age kids, and teens. Adults can also participate and be entered into a drawing for one of five prize bags.
The library is located at 300 N. Allen Drive, Allen, and is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Celina Library
The Celina Library has set a goal of reading 150,000 minutes before December 31 to celebrate the city’s 150th anniversary. Prizes are available for participants, and the library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Colleyville Library
The Colleyville Library offers a national program called 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, where parents and guardians can record their reading logs with the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten app. Rewards are available for every 100 books read, and the library is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Denton Libraries
The Denton libraries are partnering with Denton Parks & Recreation Aquatics to offer Splish Splash Story Time every Thursday through July 23. The program features stories read to kids in the children’s pool at the Denton Water Works Park.
Fort Worth Library
The Fort Worth Library is hosting the Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge, where young readers who exceed 1,000 reading minutes can win prizes. The library is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Frisco Library
The Frisco Library offers a summer cinema program, where a different movie is played every Friday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The library also hosts a Monday Mindstretcher STEM program with various activities, including a magician, zoologist, clowns, and a traveling dinosaur exhibit.
Grapevine Library
The Grapevine Library features a makerspace and recording studio, where cardholders can produce their own art, inventions, 3D prints, and podcasts. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
McKinney Library
The McKinney Library offers a dedicated children’s section with a computer lab and twice-weekly events for Baby & Me and Toddler Time. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Keller Library
The Keller Library is hosting a reading challenge, where readers who log all 63 days of reading during the summer can attend an end-of-summer pizza party with the mayor. The library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Plano Public Library
The Plano Public Library has five libraries with dedicated children’s activities and play areas for early childhood learning. The library also offers inclusive story time for children with autism spectrum disorders, sensory issues, or short attention spans.
Prosper Community Library
The Prosper Community Library is hosting craft days for children every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, from July 6 to 24. The library also offers story time with four different time slots for all ages, and tickets are required.
Richardson Library
The Richardson Library is hosting five weekly story times for children from 6 weeks old to 7 years old, and registration is required due to space limitations. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Roanoke Library
The Roanoke Library offers weekly story times in Meeting Room A, including Baby Rhyme Time, Namaste & Read, and preschool story time. The library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and is closed on Sunday.
Southlake Library
The Southlake Library is offering a family art program and a family gardening program in July, as well as Art & STEM workshops and programs. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and is closed on Sunday.
