A family-owned orchard in Cheshire has announced its permanent closure after 75 years in business. Drazen Orchards, which has been open since 1951, cited rising operating costs, physical demands, and significant crop damage from winter and spring weather as the reasons for the decision.
The orchard’s owners stated that they are choosing not to go through another season of increasing costs and hard work, and have decided to reduce or eliminate many of the costs associated with operating the orchard. This year’s weather caused extensive damage to the orchard’s fruit crops, resulting in few, if any, peaches, pears, apples, plums, quince, or blueberries.
The family expressed gratitude to all who have visited and supported the orchard over the years and asked for respect as they navigate their future. The closure of Drazen Orchards marks the end of an era for the local community, which has come to rely on the orchard for fresh produce and family activities.
