The New York Mets, with a $329 million payroll, are having a disappointing season. They are currently tied for the fourth-worst record in the major leagues.

Recent Performance

The Mets hosted the Chicago Cubs for a day-night doubleheader and lost both games. In the second game, the Mets made six errors, their most in a game since 2014. Each of their four starting infielders committed one error, which has not happened in franchise history since 1962.

Out of frustration, the Mets fans in attendance decided to chant Pete Alonso’s name, a fan favorite who left the team after last year’s midseason collapse. The Mets are now 34-46 on the season and are on pace to win fewer than 70 games.
