Las Vegas, New Mexico, has implemented Stage II water conservation measures, introducing stricter restrictions on water usage for residents and businesses as officials work to preserve the community’s water supply.
Restrictions and Guidelines
The conservation measures took effect on June 24 and will remain in place until further notice, according to the city’s Utilities Division. Under the Stage II plan, outdoor irrigation is now limited to specific days and times based on street address numbers. Residents with even-numbered addresses may water on Mondays and Fridays, while those with odd-numbered addresses may irrigate on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Watering is only permitted between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. or from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Additional measures affect vehicle washing, swimming pools, restaurants, ornamental fountains, and the use of fire hydrants. The use of city-provided water for washing personal vehicles is prohibited except at approved commercial facilities that utilize high-pressure washing equipment. Car wash businesses may not use city water on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays, although recycled water may be used any day of the week.
Swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs that were filled before Stage I conservation measures were enacted may not be refilled to compensate for water lost through evaporation, splashing, or leaks. Restaurants are also required to conserve water by serving drinking water only when specifically requested by customers.
Ornamental fountains may continue operating only if they recirculate water and are not used during windy conditions. The city has also limited the use of water from fire hydrants to firefighting operations and other activities deemed necessary to protect public health, safety, and welfare.
Residents seeking additional information about the restrictions may contact the City of Las Vegas Utilities Division at 505-454-3832. For updates and additional resources, residents can visit the city’s website.
