As summer temperatures rise in New Mexico, the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is warning drivers about the increased risk of tire blowouts. Hot pavement combined with underinflated or worn tires can create dangerous roadway hazards.
Over the weekend, NMDOT maintenance crews removed three truckloads of tire debris from Interstate 10, Interstate 25, and U.S. 70 in the Las Cruces area. To avoid such incidents, drivers are encouraged to check tire pressure, inspect tread and sidewalls, avoid overloading vehicles, and replace worn tires.
Road hazards can be reported to the NMDOT Roadway Hotline at 1-800-444-0745. By taking these precautions, drivers can help ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road.
