A Canoga Park woman is seeking justice after a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer fatally shot her 2-year-old golden Saint Bernadoodle, Jameson. The incident occurred earlier this month when two officers responded to a call about a screaming woman at an apartment in Canoga Park.
Investigation Underway
According to the woman’s attorney, Brett Greenfield, the interaction between the officers and the woman, Marie Marseille, was not pleasant from the start. The officers asked Marseille to secure her dog, but it got out into the hallway. The LAPD claims the dog was “charging” toward the officer, who then opened fire. However, Greenfield disputes this account, stating that the shooting was unjustified and that the officer escalated the situation.
Marseille and her son, Jeremiah Garcia, described Jameson as the “best dog” and recalled the heartbreaking moment they saw the dog’s lifeless body. A memorial for Jameson has been growing in the hallway of the apartment complex, with neighbors leaving flowers and cards as the family processes their grief.
Greenfield and his client are demanding accountability from the city of Los Angeles and the LAPD, including the termination of the officer involved and an apology. The LAPD has launched an investigation into the incident, and Mayor Karen Bass has promised a full investigation.
