A harrowing video footage has been released showing an armed intruder holding a 2-year-old girl hostage in her own home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The intruder, Antonio Hammond, was convicted of kidnapping, possession of a firearm, and several other offenses.
Standoff with Police
The video captures the early minutes of the May 30, 2023, standoff between police and Hammond. The mother, Michele Peters, began recording Hammond as he held her crying, autistic daughter, while police officers outside ordered him to surrender.
Hammond repeatedly told the frantic mother that the police were ‘trying to kill me’ and to ‘trust in God’ as she begged him to let her daughter go. The mother pleaded with Hammond to release her child, saying ‘I don’t know what you did. I don’t even know you. Give me my baby, please! You’re scaring her.’
Conviction and Aftermath
Hammond was eventually shot by a Crisis Response Team member after pointing a semi-automatic pistol at the toddler’s face. He was treated at the scene and survived. The toddler was safely rescued, and the mother was able to escape the apartment with her infant daughter.
