A man is facing federal charges in connection to a narcotics investigation after the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office seized a significant amount of fentanyl and two handguns while executing a search warrant in Louisville.
Details of the Seizure
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, along with federal and local law enforcement, recovered one pound of fentanyl and two handguns. According to the DEA, 2 milligrams of fentanyl is considered a potentially deadly dose, meaning there are more than 200,000 possibly lethal doses in one pound.
Diyun Byars, 47, a convicted felon, is being held at the Oldham County jail as the investigation remains ongoing. Stephan Johnson, Director of Communications for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, stated that the seizure removed a significant amount of deadly fentanyl from the community, potentially saving lives.
