Betty and Kermit Eastman, both 99 years old, recently celebrated their oak anniversary on June 6, a remarkable achievement that only one U.S. couple reaches each year on average. The couple’s story began in Thief River Falls, where they first met and eventually got married after Kermit returned from serving in the Navy during World War II.
A Life of Love and Commitment
After the war, the couple settled in St. Cloud, where Kermit worked as a superintendent. They raised two children and now have five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. The couple celebrated their anniversary at their daughter’s house with their entire family. When asked about the secret to their long and happy marriage, Betty said, “Just don’t keep secrets and be honest,” while Kermit added, “Tell it like it is. Just live every day. Every day is a gift.”
