Retired Marine Corps chaplain Rich Stoglin of Arlington, Texas, and retired Maj. Gen. James Williams of Dallas, Texas, were among those who witnessed the historic Medal of Honor ceremony at the White House.
Local Connection to the Medal of Honor
The ceremony, which awarded Major James Capers Jr. the Medal of Honor, was the culmination of nearly 50 years of advocacy. Stoglin and Williams were personally invited to attend the ceremony and described it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Williams, who spent 49 years working to help secure the award for Capers, said the recognition belongs to Capers, not himself. Both Williams and Stoglin are now working to bring Capers to visit the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington.
