Georgia Moffitt is a 99-year-old pool shark at Glenaire Retirement Community in Cary. A decade ago, she moved to the community, which had a pool table, and she picked up a pool cue, discovering her hidden talent.
From Art to Pool
Georgia could have studied art in New York after graduating from college but turned down the opportunity. She still paints, providing another relaxing pastime. She grew up in Lincolnton, just west of Charlotte, and was married for almost 60 years. She was her husband’s caretaker at the end of his life.
Georgia turns 100 in April but doesn’t feel her age. She usually beats any men who challenge her to a game of pool but doesn’t much care if she wins or loses. Georgia just loves to play. And with the energy she has at 99, she almost never finds herself behind the eight ball. If she does, she sinks that too!
