The 92nd district debate took place on Tuesday night, with incumbent State Rep. Pat Dillon and challengers Justin Farmer and Eli Sabin discussing various issues, including experience, age, and policy proposals.
Candidates’ Backgrounds
Dillon, 77, has served as the district’s state representative for 21 two-year terms and is currently the state House’s deputy majority leader. Farmer, 32, and Sabin, 26, have also served in local legislatures and emphasized their family and community ties to the district.
The debate was moderated by New Haven Independent Editor Thomas Breen, who drew questions from reader submissions. The candidates discussed issues such as housing, school funding, and the unlicensed cannabis market.
Experience and Age
Dillon argued that experience is not just about the duration of one’s tenure, but about what one does with it. She pointed to her expertise in navigating the state budget and her ability to act quickly and effectively. Farmer and Sabin, on the other hand, emphasized the need for new energy and ideas in the district.
Farmer noted that he has mentored five people who eventually took elected office, while Sabin highlighted his work as Connecticut Voices for Children’s legislative coordinator and his role in running the state legislature’s Progressive Caucus.
