9-year-old girl seriously injured after tube collision on Cedar Creek boat

On Sept. 7 at about 1:30 p.m., Cedar Creek emergency responders were called to a boating accident near Sunset Drive. The incident involved a young girl, age nine, who was being towed on an inflatable tube when the tube collided with a docked boat.

Immediate response by local agencies

Plattsmouth EMS, Cass County EMS, the Cedar Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Nebraska Game and Parks, and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office all dispatched personnel to the scene. First responders quickly assessed the situation, provided on‑site medical aid, and stabilized the child.

Air evacuation to advanced care

Given the seriousness of the injuries, the child was placed on a medical air‑lift and transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where she is receiving further treatment from trauma specialists. Hospital officials have not released details about her condition at this time.

Community impact and safety reminder

The accident has reminded local families of the importance of water safety, especially when children are involved in recreational boating. Residents are encouraged to follow safe towing practices, wear appropriate life jackets, and maintain a safe distance from other vessels while on the water.

Ongoing investigation

Authorities are conducting a preliminary investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision. No arrests have been made, and no other injuries were reported. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Our thoughts are with the child, her family, and the dedicated emergency personnel who responded swiftly to this tragic event.
