A recent study found that taking short breaks can increase energy and positivity. Psychologist Keith Diaz’s research divided 20,000 people into three groups, asking them to move for five minutes every half hour, hour, or two hours for two weeks. The results showed that participants who moved in their allotted times reported up to 28% reductions in fatigue levels and found their attention spans again.
Benefits of Short Breaks
The idea behind the study is that when we sit, we constrict our diaphragm, which doesn’t let us take in deep breaths. By taking short breaks, we can build back the conversation between our body and brain about what we need to support ourselves. Participants reported less brain fog, and more energy and positivity. Even decreasing the workday for this activity break, productivity went up 4%.
