44 New Alabama State Troopers Graduate in Governor Ivey’s Final Class

Montgomery, Ala. – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) held a ceremony on Wednesday to honor 44 new state troopers who completed a rigorous 24‑week training program. This marks the final graduating class of Governor Kay Ivey’s tenure, bringing the total number of troopers trained under her administration to 504 across 19 classes.

Training and camaraderie

Class 2026‑B began its instruction on May 18 with candidates who had not yet been certified as law‑enforcement officers. A second group of already‑certified candidates joined the program on August 24, creating a diverse cohort that trained side‑by‑side for the full 24 weeks. Class president Stephen Peter reflected on the experience, saying, “We lived together for 24 weeks, fought through battles, and became a family. It’s an exciting opportunity to join this agency together.”

Assignments across the state

Upon graduation, the new troopers will be assigned to all seven ALEA troops throughout Alabama. Four graduates will join the Marine Patrol, providing vital safety on the state’s waterways, while one will serve in Protective Services, supporting the agency’s mission to safeguard its personnel and facilities.

Governor Ivey’s legacy

Governor Kay Ivey, whose term concludes later this year, has emphasized public safety and the professional development of law‑enforcement officers. The graduation of Class 2026‑B underscores her administration’s commitment to building a well‑trained, community‑focused police force. Sheriff Kevin Turner of Madison County, who addressed the graduates, reminded them, “Your uniform identifies you as an Alabama state trooper. Your character and actions will show people what that means – serve safely, honorably, and never tarnish that badge on your chest.”

Looking ahead

With the completion of Governor Ivey’s final class, ALEA looks forward to continuing its mission of protecting Alabama’s citizens and upholding the rule of law. The agency plans to maintain its high training standards for future cohorts, ensuring that each new generation of troopers is prepared to meet the challenges of modern law enforcement while embodying the values of service, integrity, and community.

For families and residents across the state, the graduation serves as a reminder of the dedication of those who protect our neighborhoods, highways, and waterways. The new troopers join a proud tradition of service that strengthens the safety and well‑being of Alabama’s communities.
