A two-vehicle crash in western Bowie County, Texas, resulted in the deaths of four people early Saturday. The Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 3:20 a.m. on U.S. Highway 259, about 4 miles south of DeKalb.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Dru Wilson, 23, of DeKalb, was driving a Nissan Altima northbound when the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and crashed head-on with a Dodge Charger. Wilson died at the scene. Joel Ellestad, 22, Payton Butler, 24, and Ty Byrd, 20, who were traveling in the Charger, also died at the scene.
The Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District posted a message on social media mourning the loss of Butler, Byrd, and Ellestad. School officials said the entire community is keeping the families in their thoughts and prayers during this time of profound loss.
