2026 Emmy Awards Highlight Top TV Shows and Veteran Hosts

The 78th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on NBC and streamed on Peacock at 8 p.m. Eastern / 5 p.m. Pacific on Monday, September 14. The ceremony will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and will be hosted by longtime television veteran Mariska Hargitay, a three‑time Emmy winner best known for her role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. NBC has rolled out a peacock‑blue carpet to mark the network’s 100th anniversary.

Key Nominees and Expected Winners

HBO Max’s drama The Pitt returns as a strong contender after winning best drama, best actor (Noah Wyle) and best supporting actress (Katherine LaNasa) a year ago. The series is now nominated again in those three categories, with Wyle also up for three individual trophies. The ensemble has secured multiple supporting‑actor and supporting‑actress nominations.

Comedy powerhouse Hacks leads the comedy field with the most nominations for its fifth and final season on HBO Max. Star Jean Smart is widely expected to secure a fifth consecutive best actress in a comedy win.

Apple TV+ presents the horror‑comedy Widow’s Bay, which arrives with eight wins from earlier award shows and could add up to six more Emmys on Monday. If it reaches that total, it would surpass the record of 13 Emmys for a comedy set last year by The Studio. Matthew Rhys is a favorite for best actor in a comedy, while breakout star Kate O’Flynn is a strong candidate for best supporting actress.

Special Celebrations

The ceremony will also honor two iconic series milestones: the 30th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the 50th anniversary of Charlie’s Angels. Cast members from both shows are slated to appear as presenters, underscoring the enduring cultural impact of these programs.

Additional Notable Contenders

Apple TV+ drama Pluribus features Rhea Seehorn in a leading role that could earn her first Emmy for best actress in a drama. She will be competing against Zendaya, who previously won best actress for the first two seasons of Euphoria and is nominated again for its final season.

Veteran actor Harrison Ford, age 84, is also in the mix for best supporting actor in a comedy for his portrayal of a therapist with Parkinson’s disease on the series Shrinking. A win would mark his first Emmy and the first major competitive Hollywood award of any kind for the legendary star.

How to Watch

In addition to the live broadcast, the Emmys will be streamed on Peacock. A pre‑show titled “Live from E!: Countdown to the Emmys” will begin at 5 p.m. Eastern / 2 p.m. Pacific on YouTube and Peacock, featuring red‑carpet arrivals and celebrity interviews. The Associated Press will also provide a delayed feed of arrivals on YouTube.

With a blend of veteran shows, fresh series, and historic anniversaries, the 2026 Emmy Awards promise a night of celebration for television’s most acclaimed creators and performers.
