2-Year-Old Critically Injured in Shooting on Thayer Street, Indianapolis

Indianapolis police were dispatched to the 3100 block of Thayer Street shortly after 11:20 p.m. on Sunday after receiving a call reporting a shooting. Officers arriving on the scene discovered a 2‑year‑old boy who had been struck by a bullet.

The child was immediately placed under emergency medical care and transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Hospital officials have not released further details about his injuries, but they confirmed that the boy is receiving intensive treatment.

Detectives from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. At this time, no arrests have been made and police have not identified a suspect or motive. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the department.

Community Response

The shooting has sparked concern among residents of the northwest side of Indianapolis, a neighborhood that has seen a rise in violent incidents over the past year. Local community leaders are urging calm while emphasizing the need for increased safety measures and stronger neighborhood watch programs.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of this young child,” said a spokesperson for the Indianapolis Police Department. “We are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice and to ensure the safety of all our citizens.”

Police Investigation Details

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and canvassing the area for witnesses. They are also examining ballistics evidence to determine the type of firearm used. The police department has pledged to keep the public informed as new information becomes available.

Authorities remind the public that any tip, no matter how small, could prove vital to solving the case. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the department’s tip line or online portal.

Resources for Affected Families

Families impacted by violent crime in Indianapolis have access to counseling services through the city’s Victim Assistance Program. The program offers emotional support, legal guidance, and referrals to community resources.

Community organizations are also mobilizing to provide assistance to the boy’s family, including meals, transportation, and childcare for siblings.

As the investigation proceeds, police continue to patrol the northwest side of the city to deter further violence and reassure residents that public safety remains a top priority.
