19 Injured in Stampede at Atlantic Beach Bike Fest Near Myrtle Beach

A reported stampede during the annual Bike Fest in Atlantic Beach, South Carolina, near Myrtle Beach, resulted in 19 people sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. The incident took place around 1 a.m. on Sunday during the Memorial Day weekend festivities.

Event Details and Response

According to officials from the town of Atlantic Beach, the stampede was triggered when an individual began running, causing a chain reaction among the crowd gathered near a stage area. Despite the initial chaos, the situation was quickly brought under control, and the event resumed normal operations shortly thereafter.

Kevin Ingram, a festival attendee, described the situation as less severe than it initially appeared. “Everything was under control pretty right away. I mean everybody was having a great time. I think it was an isolated incident that certainly can’t overshadow this magnificent event Myrtle Beach has put on,” he told WPDE.

Official Statements and Safety Measures

The City of Atlantic Beach released a statement confirming that there were no confirmed fights, weapons, or direct threats to public safety during the Bike Fest. “This situation appears to have been triggered when an individual began running, causing a brief chain reaction within the crowd that lasted only seconds,” the statement read.

Three of the injured individuals were taken to a local hospital for further treatment, while the remaining 16 were treated on-site for minor injuries.

Historical Context

This is not the first time the Bike Fest has seen such incidents. Last year, 12 people were injured when a fight broke out, causing panic among attendees. Despite these occurrences, the event remains a popular attraction, drawing visitors from across the region who enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and community spirit.
