A tragic incident occurred near Alcatraz Island when a three-deck pontoon boat sank, leaving one person dead and two others missing. The San Francisco Fire Department reported that 19 people were on board when the vessel started to sink approximately 600 yards from Alcatraz. Thirteen people were rescued and safely transported to shore, while three others were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The U.S. Coast Guard is currently conducting search and rescue efforts, and a triage area has been set up ashore. The fire department initially reported the incident as a boat fire, but officials later stated that there was no immediate evidence of a fire breaking out.
