Fort Worth – Wing Aviation LLC, the drone delivery partner of Walmart, revealed plans to invest $125 million over the next two years in a new 15,000‑square‑foot manufacturing plant in Fort Worth. The facility will produce the company’s next‑generation delivery aircraft and is expected to create up to 100 new manufacturing jobs for local workers.
Local economic boost
Wing’s CEO Adam Woodworth said the investment reflects growing demand for drone delivery across the United States. “Drone delivery has become a global reality, driven by clear demand from our partners and their customers,” Woodworth said in a statement. “The U.S. is our focus for growth, and by investing in the future of drone delivery here, we are continuing to advance American aviation innovation as we build our commercial momentum.”
The new plant will enable Wing to produce tens of thousands of drones each year, supporting its nationwide expansion plan. Wing officials estimate the Fort Worth investment will generate up to 100 manufacturing positions, providing stable, well‑paid employment for residents of the city and surrounding communities.
Expanding Walmart partnership
Wing currently operates drones at nearly 70 Walmart locations and completed more than 1 million home deliveries this year. The partnership will soon extend to more than 270 stores, adding new markets in San Diego; Memphis, Tennessee; New Orleans; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Salt Lake City; and the San Francisco Bay area.
Chief Business Officer Heather Rivera highlighted the service’s growing importance to shoppers. “Our work with Walmart has shown that drone delivery isn’t just a novelty, it’s a service many customers count on multiple times per week,” Rivera said. “We’re already working with many communities in the seven new markets, as we accelerate our progress to bring ultra‑fast delivery to 40 million residents throughout the U.S.”
Supporting domestic aviation manufacturing
The Fort Worth investment also aligns with the Federal Aviation Administration’s upcoming Beyond Visual Line of Sight regulatory framework, which aims to strengthen U.S. manufacturing capacity for advanced aerial systems. By expanding domestic production, Wing hopes to keep critical technology and jobs within the United States.
Wing began its local delivery service in June 2024 at the Walmart located at 8520 N. Beach St. in Fort Worth and now serves 19 Walmart stores in the area, including two locations in North Richland Hills. Walmart also contracts with Zipline for additional North Texas deliveries, underscoring the region’s role as a hub for innovative logistics solutions.Local officials and business leaders have welcomed the announcement, noting the project’s potential to diversify the city’s economy and reinforce Fort Worth’s reputation as a center for high‑tech manufacturing.
