Staff members are patient, generous with tastes, and clearly proud of what they are serving.

The gelato is made fresh in small batches using real ingredients: actual pistachios from Sicily, Valrhona chocolate, locally sourced fruit when the season cooperates. You can taste the difference immediately. The texture is denser and silkier than ice cream, the flavors are cleaner and more pronounced, and a single cup is somehow both satisfying and light enough that you will seriously consider a second.
Beyond gelato, the caffè side of the operation earns its place on the menu. The espresso is pulled properly — short, crema-topped, not burned — and the affogato, a shot of espresso poured over a scoop of vanilla or hazelnut gelato, is one of the most elegant ten-dollar decisions you can make on a weekday afternoon in this city.
Paciugo also has a seasonal rotation that keeps regulars coming back to see what is new. Summer brings tropical fruit sorbettos that are dairy-free and bracingly refreshing.
