Warren community rallies to fund first responder Bobby Larisa’s heart‑transplant recovery

Warren, R.I. – A crowd of neighbors, fellow first responders and local supporters filled a community hall on Saturday to raise money for Bobby Larisa, a 38‑year‑old paramedic who received a life‑saving heart transplant three weeks ago. The event, organized by Larisa’s longtime friend Justin Teixeira, aimed to ease the financial burden of groceries, household bills and other necessities while Larina is unable to work.

Family man and public servant

Larisa, a father of four, has been described by Teixeira as a “family man” whose dedication to public service extends beyond the firehouse. “To be a firefighter, to be in public service at all, it’s a commitment to others over self,” Teixeira said, highlighting the self‑less nature that has defined Larisa’s career as a first responder.

Medical journey

Seven years ago, Larisa was diagnosed with a serious heart condition that caused the heart muscle to thicken abnormally. As the disease progressed, doctors determined a transplant was the only viable option. The surgery, performed at a regional medical center, was successful, and Larisa left the operating room with a new heart. Teixeira, who is also a paramedic, described the moment Larisa emerged from the emergency department as “very positive,” noting that he looked healthy and full of life.

Fundraiser details

The Saturday raffle attracted a larger than expected turnout. Attendees enjoyed live music, food and a sense of camaraderie as they bid on donated items. “We expected a good number at the door, but the amount of support that came today is incredible,” Teixeira said, expressing gratitude for the community’s generosity.

Looking ahead

While the transplant has given Larisa a new lease on life, doctors stress that recovery will be a long process involving medication management, physical therapy and regular check‑ups. The funds raised will help cover everyday expenses that can quickly add up when a household loses its primary income source.

Community impact

Events like this fundraiser underscore the tight‑knit nature of Warren’s neighborhoods, where neighbors step up to support one another in times of need. The gathering not only provided financial assistance but also offered emotional encouragement, reminding Larisa that his community stands behind him as he works toward a full recovery.

How to help

For those who could not attend but wish to contribute, organizers have set up an online donation portal linked through the local fire department’s website. Additional contributions will continue to be accepted throughout Larisa’s recovery period.
