Philadelphia – The European resale platform Vinted, which began in Lithuania in 2008, has officially opened its U.S. marketplace. While the company already enjoys strong growth across Europe, its arrival adds a new, fee‑free option for Pennsylvania residents looking to declutter and earn cash.
Local seller sees quick earnings
For Sammie Cimarelli of Aston, Pennsylvania, Vinted quickly became a convenient way to turn unused clothing into money. “Me and my sisters love to sell our clothes like it’s a little day that we get together. It’s one of our fun days where we just take a bunch of pictures and it’s super easy,” Cimarelli said.
She reported making “hundreds of dollars” from her first round of listings. The process, she explained, is straightforward: users upload photos, fill in prompts that the platform provides, and Vinted generates a shipping label for the seller. Buyers cover the shipping cost, and a small platform fee is applied to the purchase price.
Zero seller fees, small buyer fee
Vinted’s vice president of corporate and consumer affairs, Jessie de la Merced, emphasized the company’s distinctive fee structure. “What makes Vinted different is that you keep every single cent and dollar of the items that you sell. There are absolutely zero selling fees on Vinted,” de la Merced said. “The buyers pay a really small fee, which is our Vinted fee to use the platform. And that’s how Vinted makes money.”
According to the company, buyers can expect an average discount of about 72% compared with new retail prices, making the marketplace attractive for bargain‑hunters as well as sellers.
Tips for successful listings
Cimarelli offered practical advice for fellow Pennsylvanians hoping to maximize sales. “You have to have good lighting and take as many pictures of the item as possible from every angle, every which way,” she said. “When I have really good lighting and I’m laying out all of my items in a nice clean aesthetic way, they sell faster.” She also stressed honesty: sellers should photograph and disclose any flaws, such as stains or loose threads, to avoid later disputes.
Vinted prohibits the use of stock photos or images taken from other websites. Listings that violate this rule may be removed.
Seasonal flexibility
Unlike some platforms that limit listings to certain times of year, Vinted allows sellers to post items whenever they choose. This flexibility lets users list everything from everyday clothing to seasonal items like Halloween costumes without waiting for a specific selling window.
With its fee‑free model for sellers and a modest buyer charge, Vinted aims to capture a share of the growing online resale market in the United States. For Pennsylvania families looking to simplify fall closet clean‑outs and earn extra cash, the platform offers a straightforward, community‑focused solution.
