Tyler Junior College (TJC) launched a new campus tradition on Friday morning by holding a Ringing Ceremony at Hartley Plaza. The event celebrated alumni and recent graduates who received specially designed rings to mark their time at the college.
Alumni share memories and gratitude
Among the participants was 1973 graduate Van Jordan, who recalled the personal significance of the ceremony. “It just brings back some good memories,” Jordan said. “A lot of other people that were here, they got their rings also. And so, but I’ve also got a house full of old fraternity brothers celebrating the homecoming this weekend and a bunch of other special people in my life that was, you know, established because of the wonderful Tyler Junior College.”
Details of the ceremony
The Ringing Ceremony took place at Hartley Plaza from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Attendees were presented with the rings, which feature the college’s emblem and a design that reflects TJC’s commitment to academic excellence and community involvement. The ceremony included brief remarks from college officials, who highlighted the importance of honoring the college’s legacy and fostering connections among past and present students.
Community impact
Local residents and families gathered to watch the ceremony, underscoring the role that TJC plays in the broader Tyler community. The event not only recognized individual achievements but also reinforced the college’s mission to serve as a hub for lifelong learning and civic engagement.
Looking ahead
College administrators indicated that the Ringing Ceremony will become an annual event, providing a recurring opportunity for alumni to reconnect with the campus and for current students to see the long‑term value of their education. Future ceremonies are expected to include additional programming, such as networking sessions and mentorship opportunities, further strengthening the bond between TJC and its graduates.
Tyler Junior College continues to expand its outreach and traditions, aiming to enhance the sense of belonging among its alumni network while promoting the college’s role as a cornerstone of the Tyler area.
