Irving police have taken two teenagers into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of 40‑year‑old Andez Manning, according to Fox 4. Manning and his stepson confronted two of the stepson’s friends about a gun reportedly stolen from their home.
Fox 4 reports that the initial confrontation occurred Thursday at the Devon on Northgate apartments, where Manning and his stepson attempted to address the alleged theft. A second encounter took place nearby, just off Esters Road, during which the two teens allegedly opened fire on Manning and his stepson while they were inside their vehicle.
During the exchange, Manning returned fire but was struck in the head. His stepson drove the wounded man to a nearby Family Dollar store to call for emergency assistance. Manning remained on life support until he died on Saturday.
The victims’ family has publicly condemned the violence. Charles Ahmad Mosley, Manning’s uncle, told Fox 4 that his nephew should not have confronted the teens and that the suspects should not have been handling firearms. Mosley, a convicted felon who founded the nonprofit Taqwa Ministries, emphasized that “gangsters” should not be carrying guns.
Law enforcement identified the suspects as 17‑year‑old Zayne Ryder Townsend and an unnamed juvenile, both named by the stepson in an arrest warrant. Townsend was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon because Manning was on life support at the time of the shooting. Fox 4 notes that it is unclear when, or if, the charges will be upgraded to murder.
Townsend declined to speak with detectives, according to the arrest warrant. Police continue to investigate the incident and have not released further details about the juvenile suspect.
What’s next: Authorities are reviewing the case to determine whether the aggravated assault charge will be elevated to murder. The investigation remains ongoing, and the Irving Police Department has asked anyone with additional information to contact them.
