Irving police announced Wednesday that two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 40‑year‑old Andez Manning. The incident stemmed from a dispute over a firearm that police say was stolen from Manning’s home.
What happened
According to an arrest warrant, Manning and his stepson went to the Devon on Northgate apartments on Thursday to confront two of the stepson’s friends about the missing gun. A second confrontation occurred nearby, just off Esters Road, where the teens allegedly opened fire on Manning and his stepson while they were inside their vehicle.
Manning returned fire, but was struck in the head. His stepson managed to drive the vehicle to a nearby Family Dollar store, where they called for emergency assistance. Manning was placed on life support and later died on Saturday.
Family response
Charles Ahmad Mosley, Manning’s uncle, expressed sorrow over the loss and criticized the decision to confront the teenagers directly. Mosley said the teens’ parents should have been contacted and warned that “gangsters” should not have access to firearms. He added that the suspects have no business being around guns.
Teen suspects
The police identified the suspects as 17‑year‑old Zayne Ryder Townsend and an unnamed juvenile, both identified by Manning’s stepson. Townsend was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon while Manning was on life support. With Manning’s death, authorities indicated that the charges could be upgraded to murder, though a final decision has not yet been made.
Townsend declined to speak with detectives, according to the arrest warrant.
Community context
Irving has seen a rise in gun‑related incidents in recent months, prompting local leaders to call for stronger enforcement of existing firearm laws and increased community outreach. Mosley, a convicted felon who was released from prison 20 years ago, now runs Taqwa Ministries, a nonprofit that mentors former inmates and helps them reintegrate into society. He lamented that the tragedy hit close to home, noting his own past and the importance of guiding youth away from violence.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stolen firearm and are urging anyone with additional information to contact the Irving Police Department.
