Darke County deputies responded to a serious traffic accident Friday evening at approximately 7:03 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 49 and Pitsburg Laura Road. According to a press release from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, two vehicles were involved.
What happened
The investigation found that a Ford Mustang driven by 21‑year‑old Ryan Woods of Pleasant Hill, Ohio, was stopped in the intersection. Woods then entered the crossing without yielding the right‑of‑way. A Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 22‑year‑old Destiny Warner of Greenville, Ohio, was traveling through the intersection and collided with the Mustang.
Injuries and medical response
Both drivers sustained injuries. Woods received treatment at the scene from responding medics and was released after being evaluated. Warner was transported by ambulance to Wayne Health Care for further medical care.
Investigation continues
The Darke County Sheriff’s Office has opened a preliminary investigation into the crash. Officers are reviewing traffic camera footage, witness statements, and vehicle damage to determine the exact cause and any contributing factors such as speed, impairment, or mechanical failure.
Deputies reminded motorists to exercise caution at intersections, especially during evening hours when visibility can be reduced. “Yielding the right‑of‑way is a basic traffic law that protects everyone on the road,” the sheriff’s office statement read. “We encourage all drivers to obey traffic signals and signs, and to stay alert for other vehicles and pedestrians.”
Community safety reminder
Darke County officials continue to emphasize road safety initiatives, including regular patrols at high‑traffic intersections and public education campaigns. Residents are urged to report hazardous conditions, such as broken signals or obscured signage, to the sheriff’s office.
The investigation remains open, and the sheriff’s office will release further details as they become available.
