WHITEFIELD, Okla. — Haskell County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of two individuals suspected of a home burglary that turned into an arson investigation. The crime began on Nov. 1 when deputies responded to reports of multiple firearms, tools and other personal property stolen from a residence in Whitefield.
Investigation uncovers stolen items and fire
Deputies quickly launched a multi‑agency effort to locate the missing items and identify the perpetrators. Within days, investigators traced the stolen goods to several locations across the county, recovering a number of the firearms and tools that had been taken.
While gathering the recovered items, officers were alerted to a “suspicious fire” near another home connected to the same case. Firefighters who responded reported hearing a gunshot in the vicinity, and subsequent statements from witnesses confirmed that a gun had indeed been fired near the burning structure.
Suspects taken into custody
On Nov. 2, deputies located one suspect hiding inside a building. The individual admitted involvement in the burglary and confessed to “intentionally setting fire to the residence.” A second suspect was also apprehended shortly thereafter. Both suspects remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the stolen firearms and a few other items have been recovered, but investigators are still working to locate the remaining missing property. The names of the suspects have not been released to the public.
Community response and next steps
Whitefield residents expressed concern over the violent turn of events, emphasizing the importance of swift law‑enforcement action to protect neighborhood safety. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson highlighted the department’s commitment to thorough investigation and urged anyone with additional information to contact the office.
Authorities continue to examine the scene for forensic evidence that may further clarify the circumstances surrounding the fire and the gunshot. The investigation remains active, and updates will be provided as new details emerge.
Haskell County officials praised the collaborative effort between deputies, firefighters and local volunteers, noting that the rapid response helped prevent further loss of life and property. The community’s vigilance and cooperation were cited as key factors in bringing the suspects to justice.
