The Tennessee Titans announced they will continue to start Cam Ward at quarterback, despite a 0‑5 record and an NFL‑low 58 points scored through five weeks. The decision was made public after the Titans’ 26‑3 home loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday.
Coach Saleh backs Ward
Head coach Robert Saleh said he remains confident in Ward’s ability to lead the offense. “Cam’s our starting quarterback,” Saleh said in the post‑game interview. “We’re going to give him every opportunity to be successful this year, and we’re going to continue working with him, grinding with him and trying to help him get better.”
Ward’s performance to date
Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft, completed 23 of 36 passes for 170 yards and one interception against Houston. The Titans managed just 187 total yards in the loss. Overall this season Ward has completed 63.2% of his passes for 896 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
His career record stands at 3‑19 in 22 starts, but Ward insists the numbers do not define his potential. “I just think my process, what I’m willing to sacrifice every week to get to the player that I want to be,” he said. “Also the player that the team needs and the organization needs to win games. I love the criticism and everything that comes with the quarterback territory. It’s the best position in the world. When things go right, you take all the credit. When they go wrong, you take all the blame.”
Ward’s resolve
Ward emphasized his belief that he is not a loser, despite the winless streak. “The record may say that, that we are that right now. But at the end of the day you have to go through some stuff to get wins,” he said.
The Titans have struggled to put points on the board, scoring ten or fewer points in three games this season, including the recent loss to Houston. Their highest output came in a 24‑20 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2. Last season, Tennessee scored 14 or fewer points in eight of Ward’s 17 starts.
Looking ahead
The Titans travel to Indianapolis next Sunday to face the Colts, with Ward expecting to start again. The team hopes that continued work with the coaching staff and a stable quarterback situation will help reverse the offensive woes.
While the numbers are stark, the organization’s leadership is choosing to stay the course with Ward, believing that consistency at the position will eventually translate into better performance on the field.
