Texarkana, Texas – The City of Texarkana is calling on the public to join a special dedication ceremony for a new Recorded Texas Historic Landmark marker. The event will take place on Monday, Nov. 9, at 5:30 p.m., on the front steps of City Hall at 220 Texas Blvd., just before the regularly scheduled City Council meeting at 6 p.m.
Celebrating a Century of Service
The marker commemorates more than a hundred years of municipal service, civic leadership, and architectural significance. City Hall, a four‑story neoclassical‑revival structure, was constructed between 1924 and 1925 by the architectural firms C. H. Page & Brother of Austin and Witt, Seibert & Halsey of Texarkana. The building hosted its first City Council meeting on Sept. 1, 1925, and was formally dedicated on Nov. 12, 1925 with a parade, banquet, and community celebration.
In 2025, the Texas Historical Commission awarded City Hall the prestigious Recorded Texas Historic Landmark designation, the highest honor the state can bestow on a historic structure. The designation recognizes the building’s architectural integrity, historical significance, and enduring contribution to the community.
Why the Marker Matters
The new marker will serve as a permanent reminder of Texarkana’s rich heritage and the role City Hall has played in shaping the city’s future. By installing the marker, the city ensures that future generations will understand and appreciate the legacy of this iconic landmark.
Mayor [Mayor’s Name] emphasized the importance of preserving local history, stating, “Our City Hall stands as a testament to the dedication of the citizens who built and sustained Texarkana. This marker honors their hard work and reminds us of the values that have guided our community for over a century.”
Public Invitation
Residents are encouraged to attend the brief dedication ceremony, which will be followed by the City Council meeting. The event offers an opportunity for community members to celebrate a milestone in Texarkana’s history and to witness the continued commitment of local officials to preserve the city’s cultural heritage.
