CARPINTERIA, Calif. – The 4th Annual Toes in the Cove Rincon Longboard Classic drew surf enthusiasts from across the 805 area code on Saturday, Nov. 7. Organized by Surf Happens, the event selected the day based on a favorable wave forecast for Rincon Point, a renowned surf break known for its long, rolling rides.
Local Youth Shine on the Waves
Among the competitors, 14‑year‑old Kai Landers of Ojai stood out, clinching the top spot in the 17‑and‑under division. “It is very fun out there; the conditions are clean and glassy, the waves are super fun, there are dolphins out there, great day, weather is beautiful out there, just awesome times here at Toes in the Cove,” Landers said after his victory.
Community Support and Sponsorship
The event highlighted the strong community spirit that defines the Central Coast surf scene. Local businesses and organizations stepped up as sponsors, including Rincon Designs Surf Shop and Cole Robbins Real Estate, helping to cover costs for prizes, safety personnel, and event logistics.
Surf Happens, the nonprofit group that runs the competition, thanked volunteers, lifeguards, and the many spectators who filled the shoreline, creating a lively atmosphere for families and friends watching the action.
