SEVERNA PARK, Md. – A tragic traffic accident claimed the life of a 14‑year‑old boy on Wednesday evening when his electric motorbike collided with a pickup truck at a trail crossing in Anne Arundel County.
What happened
Eastern District officers responded at approximately 7:15 p.m. to the intersection of Robinson Road and Robinson Station Road, where the Baltimore‑Annapolis (B&A) Trail meets the road. According to a preliminary police report, the teenager was traveling southbound on the B&A Trail on an electric motorbike when he entered Robinson Road. At that moment, a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling eastbound on the road and struck the side of the motorbike.
Emergency response
Emergency crews quickly arrived on scene, extracted the rider, and air‑lifted him to a nearby hospital. He later died from his injuries. The driver of the pickup, a 49‑year‑old man from Millersville, was not injured in the crash.
Investigation underway
The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team has taken over the investigation. Officers will examine vehicle damage, road conditions, and any available video footage to determine the precise sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.
Community impact
The loss of a young life has deeply affected the Severna Park community and the broader Anne Arundel County area. Local officials and residents are calling for a review of safety measures at trail‑road intersections, emphasizing the need for clear signage and possible engineering improvements to protect both cyclists and motorists.
Safety considerations
Electric motorbikes, often referred to as “e‑motos,” have become increasingly popular among teens for their ease of use and low operating costs. However, they also present unique safety challenges, especially when sharing space with motor vehicles at road crossings. Safety advocates recommend that riders wear helmets, use reflective gear, and remain vigilant when entering roadways. Likewise, drivers are urged to reduce speed and watch for smaller, quieter vehicles at intersections.
Next steps
Police have not released the identity of the teenager out of respect for the family’s privacy. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have asked anyone with additional information or dash‑cam footage of the incident to contact the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Community members seeking support or counseling services can reach out to local mental‑health resources, including the Anne Arundel County Department of Human Services.
