The Arizona Wildcats, coming off a tense semifinal comeback to reach the Big 12 championship match, were handed a 4-0 defeat by No. 3 TCU in Orlando on Saturday. The loss ended Arizona’s bid to complete a sweep of the conference regular season and tournament crowns.
The two teams had split earlier meetings this season: Arizona prevailed 4-0 in Tucson on March 22, but TCU flipped the script in the title match. Arizona entered the tournament ranked No. 9 nationally and had clinched the Big 12 regular-season title the week prior, earning the top seed and a first-round bye.
In the March meeting in Tucson, Arizona’s doubles pairing of Filip Gustafsson and Glib Sekachov were key contributors, posting a 6-3 win in their match and helping the Cats to that earlier 4-0 result. But in Orlando, TCU’s depth proved decisive in singles play.
On championship day, TCU’s Duncan Chan defeated UA senior Jay Friend 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Oliver Bonding handled Arizona’s Zoran Ludoski 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, and Roger Pascual Ferra closed out the scoring with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Alejandro Arcila at No. 6.
Arizona’s path to the final included a narrow 4-3 quarterfinal victory over UCF, a match that extended the Wildcats’ win streak against the Knights to 16 meetings. Doubles points from Friend and Alexander Rozin (6-3 in the No. 2 match) and the Arcila–Cole Stelse pairing (6-4) set the table, and singles wins by Friend, Sekachov and Rozin sealed Arizona’s advance.
With the title win in Orlando, TCU claimed its fourth Big 12 Tournament championship and its first since 2023, while Arizona will look to regroup after a strong regular season that left them atop the conference standings.
