DALLAS — Dallas Stars defenseman Nils Lundkvist did not go to the hospital after a skate cut his face during Saturday’s game, though coach Glen Gulutzan said Sunday he had no additional updates.

The injury happened in the second period of Dallas’ 3-2 overtime loss at Minnesota. The play resulted in a deep laceration to the left side of Lundkvist’s face and left the best-of-seven first-round series tied at 2-2.

Players on the Stars had the day off Sunday. Gulutzan spoke to reporters on a Zoom call and said he was waiting for information after a further examination of Lundkvist. He added that Lundkvist did not need to go to the hospital for the cut.

Game 5 is Tuesday night in Dallas.

The incident occurred on a play where Lundkvist was assessed a tripping penalty. As Michael McCarron tumbled, his skate accidentally struck Lundkvist in the face. Lundkvist was bleeding when he went directly to the Dallas bench and then down the tunnel.

Lundkvist signed a two-year, $3.5 million contract that was announced just before the start of the playoffs. The deal runs through the 2027-28 season.

The Stars head into Game 5 with the series even. The team and fans will be watching for an update on Lundkvist’s status before Tuesday’s game and for how the lineup shapes up for the crucial matchup at home.
