The City of Sparks announced that median cleanup work along Rock Boulevard will commence on Friday, Oct. 30. The project is being carried out in two phases and will require temporary lane closures in both directions.
Phase 1 – Gault Way to Oddie Boulevard
Phase 1 covers the stretch from Gault Way to Oddie Boulevard. Work will be performed on the following dates and times:
- Friday, Oct. 30: 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Monday, Nov. 2: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Tuesday, Nov. 3: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
During each of these periods, one lane will be closed in each direction on Rock Boulevard. Traffic will continue to flow in both northbound and southbound directions, but drivers should expect reduced capacity and possible delays.
Phase 2 – Oddie Boulevard to D Street
Phase 2 begins immediately after the first phase, with work scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The same lane‑closure pattern will apply, with one lane in each direction closed while crews clean the median.
What Residents Should Expect
The median cleanup is intended to remove debris, overgrown vegetation, and litter that have accumulated along the boulevard. By restoring the median, the city aims to improve visibility for drivers, enhance the aesthetic appeal of the corridor, and reduce the risk of wildlife or objects entering the travel lanes.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the work zones. Drivers should reduce speed, follow posted signage, and be prepared for occasional stop‑and‑go traffic. The city advises residents to consider alternate routes when possible, especially during peak commuting hours.
City’s Commitment to Safe Streets
Mayor Jason … (city spokesperson) emphasized that the median cleanup is part of Sparks’ broader effort to maintain safe and attractive public thoroughfares. “Keeping our streets clean and well‑maintained is essential for the safety of our families and the overall quality of life in Sparks,” the spokesperson said.
The City of Sparks will continue to monitor traffic conditions throughout the project and will provide updates if additional adjustments to lane closures become necessary. Residents can stay informed by visiting the city’s official website or following the city’s social‑media channels for real‑time alerts.
