Southlake Police Detain Dez Bryant After Parking Lot Confrontation

Southlake police responded to a report of a fight in the 2200 block of FM 1709 on Sunday, Oct. 25, at about 12:59 p.m. The incident involved former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant, 37, and several other individuals in a retail parking lot near Kimball Avenue.

Police Action and Detention

Officers arrived after multiple callers described a possible weapon and several people fighting. As a precaution, officers drew their firearms and temporarily detained several individuals. No weapons were recovered at the scene.

Video supplied by Bryant to OutKick shows him lying face‑down with his hands cuffed behind his back while an officer stands nearby holding a long gun. Two other men are also shown on the pavement.

What Triggered the Confrontation

According to the police report, the dispute began after Bryant reported that another motorist cut him off on the road. Both parties entered the parking lot, where an argument escalated into an alleged assault.

Bryant told OutKick that two drivers cut him off before the parking‑lot argument and that one of the men made comments he interpreted as a threat to shoot him. “No, he didn’t pull a gun out on me,” Bryant said. He added that he warned the man he would retaliate if a gun was drawn, but the man instead began recording the encounter on his cellphone. Bryant claimed he knocked the phone out of the man’s hand.

Assault Citation

Southlake police cited Bryant for assault by contact, a Class C misdemeanor, and released him at the scene. The citation directs Bryant to appear in Southlake Municipal Court on or before Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. The citation notes “Arrest: No.”

Officer Conduct

Bryant accused the officers of relying on the other man’s recording without fully investigating the circumstances that led to the confrontation. Police, however, stated that they acted on multiple calls reporting a fight and a possible weapon, and that they took precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

Background on Bryant

Dez Bryant is a three‑time Pro Bowl receiver who spent eight seasons with the Dallas Cowboys after being selected in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He remains a well‑known figure in the Dallas‑Fort Worth area.

The incident underscores the challenges law‑enforcement faces in responding to public disputes, especially when high‑profile individuals are involved. Southlake police continue to encourage residents to report any threats or violent behavior promptly.
